The quality of life of the EU citizens is the subject of many
activities, laws, programmes etc. and also, the main issue of the Local Agenda
21. When citizens have a good life quality, the whole society works better.
But the urban development in the “industrial age” is frequently associated with area where people live in progressing unfriendly environment. The pollution due to transportation, the “albedo effect” etc. has a significant contribution to this situation. Also, the “investors” are rather preoccupied by speculative business with land than by social life of communities or by preserving cultural heritage and other values.
“Economical crisis” means also people marginalisation, problems like criminality, drugs, lack of chances for youngsters and, generally, it creates a “weaknesses chain”, jeopardising the chances for future. These are also associated to the degradation of public spaces.
Degraded areas means an issue of land-use, planning and real-estate which affects the whole society.
For an effective regeneration of these spaces, all the stakeholders need to reach a large amount of new know-how. There are complex issues which have to be approached in an integrated manner.
The key-words for finding solutions are:
- get involved;
- get informed;
- create workable partnerships;
- provide leadership
